A sack suit can be defined simply as a suit with a straight, loose-fitting jacket. There are no darts to give any other defined shape or tailoring to the individual figure. This particular sack suit was fashionable from 1858 – 1889. The popular name of the day for the three-piece Sack Suit was the "Ditto Suit".
The sack suit was also known as the walking suit or business suit (or, in Britain, the "lounge suit"). It was considered leisurewear for men who might wear a frock coat and the best clothes of a vast majority of American men.
What the Victorians knew as the sack coat first appeared in France at the end of the 1840s and quickly spread to England and America.
Only the fabrics listed here are available in the ditto suit combination.
Vest and Trouser sizes are determined by us based on the measurements you supply. The back of the Vest matches the lining color of the coat you select.
The vest lining itself is natural colored cotton.
This time period when this coat was most worn blurs from the early 1850s through the Civil War era until the 1880s which are considered both part of the Victorian and Old West time period.
1858-1889 Civilian 3 piece Sack Suit starts at $459.00 in Standard Fabrics (Plaids and Deluxe Fabrics priced higher.)
